This test kit measures both the GH and KH of the water. 

GH is the General Hardness and is a measure of mineral in the water (soft water or hard water).

KH is the Carbonate Hardness often referred to as the alkalinity.  KH is critical for a stable pH as well as maintaining proper biological filtration
